At a first glance of the trailer of Frozen, it seems that an evil Snow/Ice Queen turns the land of Arendelle to snow and ice, all while Hans, Kristoff, and Anna try to save the land with the help of Olaf, a talking snowman. Hans, described as the "gorgeous nice guy," seems to be the stereotypical Disney Prince. That is not the real plot of the movie, however. Several progressive ideas crop up throughout the film that Disney really seems like they are trying to hide in the trailer, only dropping subtle hints that raise questions for the viewer. Anna is specifically titled "no guy" in the trailer; but why does it have to be pointed out that she is not a man when asking who saves the day? And is Elsa, the evil queen, really evil? Initially watching the trailer, I was convinced the whole film was about the classic Disney princess story where the princess (Anna) has to battle against the strong independent character of the evil queen (Elsa) all while falling mutually in love with the Prince (Hans). Watching the film, I was more than relieved that Disney did not use its cookie cutter mold for Frozen and analyzing the film further was thrilled to find just how progressive Frozen is.
