When Elsa and Anna were little, Elsa would use her powers to play in the snow with Anna indoors until Anna was struck in the head accidentally by Elsa. After that, all of Anna's memories of playing with Elsa were replaced with fake memories of being outside in the winter. Her parents then make the decision to shut the doors to the castle and reduce the staff. Their father states "we will limit her contact with people and keep her powers hidden from everyone...including Anna", as if inferring that they do not want Elsa's power to rub off on her sister and ignite such a preposterous idea of having two strong independent daughters. Essentially shutting Elsa out, and literally keeping her behind a shut door her whole childhood isolates her in every aspect of her life. Throughout the movie Elsa constantly mentions "conceal don't feel, don't let it show" initially rooted in her from her parents giving her gloves to conceal her power and keep herself hidden from the world. This isolation and idea that she is dangerous essentially petrifies her when she gets older to connect with anybody, including Anna. When she is exposed to everyone regarding her power, she instantly sees herself as a threat to Arendelle and runs away to avoid any repercussions of her own identity. Elsa's parents were emotionally abusive to her by making her fear herself, however their portrayal of an abusive relationship, unfortunately, is something that kids face today.
